Chapter 6
Experimenting With Inks and Acrylics

THE FIRE WITHIN

22" × 30" (56cm × 76cm), acrylic ink, Golden high flow paint and drawing mediums on Yupo paper

WORKING WITH YUPO PAPER offers so many possibilities to create beautiful and unusual watercolor-like marks. In the past, I used this substrate in my work mostly for watercolors and India ink, but once Golden formulated the Golden high flow paint, I knew that it would be exactly the right type of acrylic to use for even more intense designs, and I was right. In the next couple of examples, you’ll see how you can create an “anything goes” type of edgy painting resembling a graffitied wall and another composition that is slightly more refined in design without losing the brilliant and colorful illusion of depth that’s typical of Yupo paper designs. This is, of course, just the tip of the iceberg for what you can do. On Being Curious About Life and Exploring

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

— MARK TWAIN.
