Acknowledgments

Thanks are due, first and foremost, to the contributing authors for their hard work, timely production, and patience with not one, but two, pestiferous editors (motto: “True freedom means doing what we tell you to do”). The series editor, Bill Irwin, was a constant source of encouragement and good advice. We particularly thank him for his frequent reminders that “the fountains of prosperity irrigate the garden of prudence and virtue.” Open Court’s Editorial Director David Ramsay Steele, a devilishly well-preserved fellow who swears by Plumptree’s Vitaminized Nerve Food, had faith in this project from the beginning and provided valuable feedback as the book neared completion. Jamie McAndrew, the trusty student aide to the Philosophy Department at King’s College, read all the essays in draft and offered many helpful suggestions for improvement. Jerry wishes to thank Elizabeth, Angela, and Jonathan for love and encouragement. Greg also wishes to thank Elizabeth, Angela, and Jonathan—for keeping Jerry sane. In addition, Greg thanks his wife, Mia, and his son, Dylan, for their love, patience, and support. Without the help of all these good people, this book would still be lingering in the Wood between the Worlds.
