Chapter Fourteen

I found the old yearbook from that year, and I laughed at everyone’s pictures and how ludicrous everyone looked. We always tried to make everyone laugh, so I guess it worked out in the end. Then I saw the picture of Morgan and me in the "awards" section. That year had been a big turning point for the school. I took a deep breath as I read the letters underneath the picture, "Cutest Couple". It was something I never imagined true, so when the yearbook photographer took the picture, I assumed it was just for fun. Three months later when I got my yearbook, I had no words.

Morgan took it better than I did, as he flaunted that yearbook like it was the Holy Grail. He was extremely excited about being in it, especially since we got a little trophy. It was kind of amusing, even if some select people refused to believe we had won anything. As I looked over to the bookcase, seeing the trophy sitting on the shelf, I remembered that day like it was yesterday. The feelings all came crashing back inside me, and the pride was inevitable. We had won something most people would have killed to get.

"Awe! That is probably the best picture of you two I have ever seen! It looks so natural! I can't believe you won cutest couple, I'm kind of jealous." Jenny stifled a laugh as she closed her locker and put the yearbook in her other hand. She had been musing about this for hours now, but I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. "I wonder if he's seen it yet, I'm sure he'll be super excited about it. I wish Julian and I could have won, I think we're adorable."

I laughed a little, trying to be as excited as her, "I don't think he'll care, it's just some stupid award we won at the high school. I bet he'll just shrug it off as coincidence."

As we made our way to math, at least fifteen people stopped me and congratulated me on the win. They awed and oohed about the picture and told me it was the best picture of all time. I didn't understand the whole spiel about it, but I just said thanks and continued on my way. The rest of my classes for the day seemed to fly by, and I really didn't like all the looks, but I guess it was for a good cause. At least it was civilized.

Lunch finally came around, and I was starving by the time it finally did. I grabbed my lunch and made my way to the table where everyone was sitting. Morgan didn't seem to be around, which made me kind of nervous since he was always here before I was. I sighed as I sat down, watching Jenny give Julian a peck on the lips, ew! Straight love was so gross.

After what seemed like hours, I looked around the cafeteria once more, but Morgan was nowhere to be seen. He had been absent the entire lunch, and I was not impressed. The least he could have done was text me that he wouldn't be here. Then I would have gone out with Kelly from my English class to lunch, but no, he didn’t. So here I was, sitting in the cafeteria, watching Julian and Jenny undress and probably make love to each other with their eyes.

"Jenny, I'm going to go get some stuff from the car. Are you going to be able to maintain your dignity and not sleep with Julian right here in the middle of the cafeteria?"

As she gave me some sort of death glare, Jenny stuck up her middle finger, but her lips did not leave Julian's. Well, that's kind of awkward. I got up and walked out of the school, heading towards the cars. I was super excited my parents finally let me take a car for the day because it meant they were getting closer to trusting me to get my own car! Bus rides were not for this guy right here!

Opening the door, I searched for the sweater I needed to give back to Morgan. It had to be somewhere in here, I knew I got it this morning. I started rifling through everything. My dad really was a messy person, and he should probably clean out his car once in a while.

While searching for the sweater, I heard someone come up behind me. I turned around to see a smirking Morgan looking at me, his hands hidden behind his back, "Hey, Mattieboy."

I rolled my eyes, "Well, the mysterious Morgan creature finally appears. He's been vacant for a few hours now, especially through an awkward lunch where the Mattieboy species had to watch the Julian and Jenny creatures almost undress each other on the cafeteria table."

I felt his arms around me as I got out of the car, "Would the fact I was buying these make up for anything?"

I turned to look what he had bought, and I was astonished to see tickets to the latest Avril Lavigne concert. I couldn't hide the smile, "Where the hell did you get those? And flowers!" I looked at Morgan, who was obviously amused by my excitement.

"I had to go talk to one of my father's employees because they had extra tickets they were selling. I remembered you liked her, so we're going. The flowers are because we won Cutest Couple this year, and that kind of makes my life."

I giggled slightly, kissing Morgan lightly, "Well aren't you just the best boyfriend in the world."

He held his head up high, "Already knew that, Mattieboy."

An alarm on my phone went off, "Oh shit. I'm going to be late for English, and you know Mrs. P, she'll absolutely lose her mind if I'm late one more day. Are we hanging out after school?"

"Obviously."

I looked down at saw the sweater, "Here's your sweater."

He kissed me, "Looks better on you, you can have it."
