Chapter Seventeen

After the news coming from Mrs. Winters, I learned some things about Morgan that I didn't know before. They say it takes a lifetime to know a person, and I would have to agree. I had known Morgan for six months and yet, here I was sitting watching him talk about how awesome it would be to have a smaller sibling to take care of. His eyes were sparkling whenever he talked about being there for his brother or sister. It was at that moment I realized that Morgan would really have liked to be a father. We never talked about a family, seeing as it was so early in our relationship. I just assumed he didn't want children, knowing full well  a lot of gay families were not popping up everywhere, but I was wrong.

That weekend, we made a trip up to the cottage that the Winters owned, and I found a new respect for Morgan. His younger cousin was there and at that moment, I saw how good he was with kids. The glimmer in his eye as he played around with his cousin really made me see what kind of father Morgan would turn out to be. I knew I wanted to be an amazing father, just like Morgan, but I was also terrified of turning out like my own father. Even if he said he loved me, I knew deep down inside he was disappointed in my life. I didn’t want that for my child.

"So, Mr. and Mrs. Winters, have you guys decided on a name for the baby? I know it might be early on, but everyone wants the perfect name, no?" Julian was leaning in his seat, trying to get as close to them as possible.

I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. I hated long car rides, but I said I would go to the cottage with Morgan. I needed a break anyways. The trees rolled by as we drove down the highway. My butt was becoming numb, and I felt like we had been sitting here for hours. I kept looking at the clock, realizing it had only been an hour.

"We haven't completely decided yet, but I think we're looking at Kyler for a boy and Karen for a girl.Who knows, maybe we'll just name them Mattie." Mr. Winters winked through the rear-view mirror at me, I turned my head and laughed lightly.

"I don't think that would be a good idea. I don't think I could handle dating a Mattie and then having a brother named Mattie. That would be awkward if we were ever in bed and I was..." Morgan started talking, and my eyes bugged out of my head as I smacked him on the arm, signalling for him to stop talking "... I just think it would be weird to have two Matties in my life."

Jenny started giggling, turning her head towards me, "What do you think, Mattie? Is there a name you'd like for your future kid? I know Morgan already has his picked out." Jenny threw her hands up, “Not that they were very original, what kind of original names are Karen and Benjamin?”

I laughed, shaking my head at the names. “They’re cute!”

"Oh, just so you kids know, my sister will be there." Mrs. Winters was looking at her phone, "She just texted me that she was able to get the weekend off from work. Mattie, you'll love Stella, she is honestly one of the best people I know."

Morgan looked like he was getting excited, "Is Kendall going to be there as well!?"

Mrs. Winters was nodding, "Absolutely. We haven't seen that little spitfire in a few months, I know he is super excited to see you Morgan. Apparently he kept asking Stella if he was going to see you. He says that your tickles are the best in the business."

Morgan proudly smiled, "Of course they are, I'm just awesome like that."

I sighed. I felt like the outsider here. Everyone else had met these people, and I was new. What if this Kendall didn't like me? What if he thought I was taking Morgan away from him? Did he even know what being gay was?

The car came to a stop in front of a huge looking house. Where the hell were we? "Is this..."

Morgan slapped my back, "This is the best place in the world. It's like living at a home away from home."

As I walked into the building, I noticed it looked like the Winters’ house back in town, which made me confused. I thought we were camping? I looked around the main room, seeing all the bedrooms. Morgan grabbed my hand and pulled me into a room, closing the door.

"What are you doing, Morgan? I was trying to look over the house."

Morgan pushed me onto the bed, "Want to make a family of our own, Baby?" He was smirking, and I started giggling, "Come on Mattie, we'll have beautiful children."

"And who is getting pregnant, because I'm pretty sure we both are missing a few important parts, such as a uterus."

Morgan started laughing, getting off the bed after kissing me lightly, "I guess there is the case of the missing uterus." He opened the door, motioning for me to follow, "I'll take you to my favourite place in the entire cottage. I used to go there to read and take a breather from all the children of the family. It's beautiful, follow me."

I followed Morgan to the rooftop, where they had a patio set. I couldn't believe the view of the lake and other cottages lining the woods around us. "This is beautiful."

My thoughts were interrupted as a woman walked out with a child, "UNCLE MORGGIE!"

The child wrapped his arms around Morgan, a huge smile on his face. I turned to say hi to the woman, but my mouth dropped open. "Mrs. Daniels?"

She looked at me, tensing up immediately, "Oh... Hi Mattie. What are you doing here?"

I stuttered, "What are you doing here, actually?"
