Michael Morgan first fired a blackpowder rifle as a Boy Scout at summer camp, and over the next 35 years, his passion for blackpowder firearms has grown to include building guns from kits, tinkering and experimenting with blackpowder rifles and percussion revolvers, and hunting. Here, in his own words, is what he had to say about his passion.
“My favorite period of history are the three centuries from 1600 to 1900. During this period, the world watched the transformation of the guild masters of gun making to the mechanized production of firearms from the early industrial period. This period represents some of the greatest innovations in firearms, a time when art and beauty had not yet been destroyed by the demand for function over form that has become the hallmark of the modern age. Look at a Kentucky Long Rifle and a Colt '51 Navy revolver. Then look at a Glock and an M4 Carbine. Which one looks better over the fireplace?”
Michael is a member of the National Rifle Association. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Sciences and works as an IT Project Manager at Heritage Auctions. Outside the office, Michael also enjoys teaching, reading, writing, archery, and gardening. This is his first book with Gun Digest.
