1. Beavertail Lighthouse, at the tip of Jamestown, Rhode Island, painted sometime in the second half of the nineteenth century, artist unknown. The lighthouse shown, completed in 1856, is the third and last one built at this location. It replaced an earlier stone tower from the mid-1700s.
2. The Lighthouse at Two Lights, by Edward Hopper, 1929. This painting shows the east tower of twin lights at the Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse, in Maine.
3. The Long Leg, by Edward Hopper, 1935. Long Point Lighthouse, located in Provincetown, Massachusetts, can be seen in the distance. This image appeared on a U.S. postage stamp in 2011 as part of the postal service’s American Treasures series.

10. The Borden Flats Lighthouse, at the mouth of the Taunton River in Fall River, Massachusetts. The lighthouse is privately owned, and is rented out for overnight stays.
11. Lighthouse Dandelions, by Jamie Wyeth, 1997. The painting depicts Tenants Harbor Lighthouse in Maine, which overlooks Penobscot Bay. Wyeth uses the lighthouse both as a residence and a studio.
