Spiced apple crisp

A comforting crumble-style dessert, which also tastes good served cold. It contains no added sugar – the sweetness comes from the sultanas. If you don’t have sultanas, use raisins or chopped dates instead.

COOK’S TIPS

This is delicious served with full-fat Greek yoghurt or full-fat crème fraîche (see page 239 for calories).

  1. 1. Place the apples, sultanas and cinnamon in a large saucepan. Add 100ml cold water, cover and cook over a medium heat for 5–6 minutes, or until the apples are soft but some chunks are just holding their shape, stirring occasionally.
  2. 2. Meanwhile, place the butter, almonds and oats in a non-stick frying pan and toast over a medium heat for 3–4 minutes, stirring regularly until lightly browned.
  3. 3. Divide the spiced apple between four dishes, sprinkle with the almond and oat mixture and serve.
