Chapter 7

MEGAN WALKED THROUGH the woods with her sisters, super conscious of the two drunken cougars slinking through the shadows in their wake. Did they seriously think she didn’t know they were there? She was a witch for heaven’s sake, one of the most powerful of their generation, and her sisters weren’t bad either.

“We should cast a spell on them,” Jessica muttered drunkenly. It was pretty obvious she was still fuming over Dan’s comments earlier.

Megan smirked. Maybe their love spell had backfired and Jessica would be the one to find her true mate. Still, casting a quick spell wasn’t a bad idea. Megan pulled energy from the earth and spun it around them, obscuring their forms and muffling their voices.

Lara glanced around, nodded at Megan, then asked Jessica, “Hey, how’d you know his chair was going to collapse like that?”

“I didn’t.” Jessica grinned. “I had condensation on my fingers and was flicking it off. It was just bad timing.”

Lara laughed. “Or really great timing! Did you see the look on his face?”

“You know they’re going to keep harassing us to prove we can cast spells,” Jessica said.

Megan shrugged. “Let them.” She took a pull straight from the bottle of Witches’ Brew. Best money they’d ever spent since it showed no signs of emptying out anytime soon. “We don’t have to prove anything.”

Jessica reached for the bottle and drank deep. “True, but it might be kind of funny trying to convince them.”

“Ooh!” Lara jumped up and down. “This could be so much fun! Imagine the havoc we could wreak and all with their permission.”

Megan shook her head. “Okay, well, you two have fun with that. Me, I’m not jumping through hoops for anyone.”

“We wouldn’t be jumping through hoops. We’d be choosing to cast certain spells with the goal of freaking them out!” Lara grinned.

Megan rolled her eyes. There was no way this wasn’t going to get out of hand fast.
