Chapter 2
“SO ARE YOU wolves going to behave tonight?” Cassie, one of Shenanigans’ waitresses, asked as she delivered their beers.
Max grunted. He wasn’t making any foolish promises.
“Of course we are, Cassie, darling,” Pete exclaimed cheerfully.
Max rolled his eyes. He had to wonder whether Pete truly believed what he was saying or if what he really meant was that they’d try and fail.
Pete’s mate, Jenny, giggled, probably anticipating the many ways his promise would be broken later.
Dan snorted. “Don’t listen to him, Cassie. The wolves never behave and you know it. And seeing as the moon’s full in two days, they’re just gonna keep on getting worse.”
“As if you cougars will be any better,” Max scoffed.
Cole shrugged. “The moon doesn’t affect us the way it does you wolves. We have other vices. Right, Dan?”
“Right.” Dan grinned.
“Like what?” So far, Max hadn’t seen any real weaknesses in the cougars, so he was curious.
Dan looked at Cole, who tipped his chin in a go-ahead motion. With a grin, Dan told Max, “That’s for us to know and hopefully, for you to never find out.”
Max growled as the rest of them laughed. “Very funny.”
Three hours later, Shenanigans was bursting at the seams. It seemed the entire wolf pack had decided to come out and party. There were wolves everywhere. Some were dancing and some were playing pool or darts, but most were just laughing and talking and drinking. A lot.
At that moment, the best song in the universe started playing over the speakers.
Up until that point, only mellow classical music had been playing, which was completely ridiculous in a bar, but Travis did it every single full moon, probably hoping to keep things calm. He always failed, but Max supposed he should respect the bear for the attempt.
Now though, with the beat of the best song playing in the background, Max, along with the rest of his pack, leapt to his feet, flung back his head and let loose with his best wolf’s howl.
“Awooooooo, full moon’s a-coming! Awooooooo, embrace the wildness! Awooooooo!”
Some stayed on their feet dancing and singing along with the lyrics while others sat down, only to leap to their feet a minute later to howl again.
“Awooooooo, wild wolves a-coming! Awooooooo, let me hear you howl! Awooooooo!”
This song was the best!
* * *
“What the hell?” Travis growled from his position behind the bar.
Glory just leaned against it and laughed.
A minute later, Phoenix and Cassie joined her and the three of them watched and laughed as everyone in the bar, minus the few cougars scattered throughout, leapt to their feet and howled.
“Um, I think Dan and Cole are about to do something stupid,” Phoenix told Glory.
Glory looked at the table she’d been avoiding all evening.
There was Max in all his sexiness, black hair askew, leaping to his feet to howl. And this time, Cole and Dan joined him, letting out a couple cougar roars to match.
Cole’s mate, Megan, and her sisters Lara and Jessica, were sitting at the table with them and the looks on their faces were hilarious.
Phoenix and Cassie giggled.
Glory just shook her head and grinned.
“Ladies!” Travis slammed his hand on the bar behind them, making all three women jump.
Glory turned, along with Phoenix and Cassie, and raised an eyebrow at her brother. What was his problem?
“Who let them play that song?” He demanded. “I had classical music programmed for the entire weekend. Who messed with that?”
On either side of her, Phoenix and Cassie both raised their hands.
“Phoenix!” Travis glared at his mate. “I can’t believe you would betray me like this.” His lips twitched, so Glory knew he wasn’t really mad.
She glanced at Phoenix who just grinned at her mate and said, “But I wanted to hear them howl.”
Cassie giggled. “It was my fault, Travis. I told her this would be the most entertaining part of the weekend. We just had to, you know, add that song to your playlist.” She grinned. “Multiple times.”
Travis scowled. “Do not tell me you have this song programmed more than once.”
Cassie shrugged. “Only a few times, right, Phoenix?”
“Right. Like probably only six or seven times a night.”
“What?”
“Awooooooo, full moon’s a-coming! Awooooooo!”
