Grilled Asparagus

Be sure to put your asparagus on the grill perpendicular to the grates. You wouldn’t want to lose any of these yummy veggies!

Vegetable oil, for the grates

1 bunch (about 1 pound) asparagus, tough woody ends snapped off and discarded

2 tablespoons olive oil

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

a8 Preheat a clean grill to medium-high with the lid closed for 8 to 10 minutes. Lightly brush the grates with oil.

a8 Place the asparagus on a baking sheet. Toss with the olive oil until well coated. Season with the salt and pepper to taste.

a8 Place the asparagus on the grill. Cook, turning once or twice, until tender and slightly charred, 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Serve immediately.

Serves 4.

a2 Cooking Tip: The ends of asparagus spears tend to be tough and woody. To trim, simply bend each stalk, and it will naturally break off in just the right spot.

a4 Variations: Grilled asparagus makes a perfect side dish, but it also makes a tasty salad. See for my Asparagus and Cherry Tomato Salad.
