OUR POWERFUL PREDATOR

duck

Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

—PROVERBS 6:5

WHEN I GO into the woods or the duck blind, I have one thing on my mind: “How do we get ’em today?” To be a successful hunter, you have to think, see, and hear like your prey. We do our best to outwit the animals, but sometimes they elude us. I wonder if they are as excited about escape as we are about taking them.

But the thing of it is, we are being hunted by a powerful predator every day of our lives. The devil is out there hunting for our souls and hearts. A good thing for us is that we’ve learned lessons in nature that can assist us in being elusive. To escape a snare, you have to trust your spiritual instincts, you have to be ready to move quickly, and you have to stay out of the captor’s range.

Prayer

Help us escape the snares of the devil and trust in Your ways of providing escape and awareness. Forgive us when we willingly fall into traps set by the devil. When we’re caught, we end up crying out for Your help. We praise You for always hearing our cries and delivering us—even when we don’t deserve it. All glory to You through Jesus, amen.
