Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.

THESE BOYS HAD been forcefully taken from home to a strange and foreign land. During their stay in this new land, they showed great faith and were placed in positions as overseers of the foreign nation they were deported to. But even in their success, they were unwilling to compromise their faith in the one true God. When commanded to bow down to a false god, they refused, knowing their refusal would put their lives in danger. They had confidence in their God and knew He could save them if He chose to. But even in their powerful display of faith, they made no demands on God; they simply trusted in Him. What an example for us!
Prayer
Lord, help us to trust and be faithful to You like these Hebrew boys were. Help us to leave the outcome in Your hands.
