In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
—JOHN 1:1–5
JESUS HAS BEEN with God since the very beginning. And in the passage above God explains His Son by saying that He is the Word. By this Word the world and all that’s in it was created. By this Word, we are sheltered from the darkness—by Him we live. And now, we have the Word in a tangible form—the Bible. God has given us His written Word so that we can understand the very heart of God. The contrast between God’s gift of Jesus and our selfishness in killing Him unfolds all too clearly in the Word. We all have the choice to live either in the light of God or in dark ignorance. We take our own power away when we keep our Bibles on a dusty shelf.
Prayer
Beloved Father, I want to live in Your light. Reveal the message of Your Word to me; shelter me in Your safety. Keep me from ignorance and darkness. I choose You!
