My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

I OFTEN NEED TO hear the message of this verse: I need to be reminded that when I do sin—and I will—that I have someone in heaven who is speaking to God on my behalf. Jesus actually comes to our defense! This confirms that He is God and we are not. There’s no way we can live without sin; it is only by God’s grace that we are saved. We can know for sure that Jesus has taken care of us where we couldn’t. Grace . . . forgiveness, that’s what brings you peace . . . peace of mind. Relax, you don’t have to do anything; He has done it for us. I like knowing that God can do what I can’t.
Prayer
Father, I thank You for the peace that You bring. Thank You for the cross. Thank You for Your grace and mercy. Thank You for defending us, and most of all, thank You for Jesus. In His precious name, amen.
