And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
—PHILIPPIANS 2:8
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
—2 CORINTHIANS 5:21
FOR THOUSANDS OF years, the Hebrew people had sacrificed animals in an effort to take away the stain and guilt of sin, but the Hebrew writer tells us in Hebrews 10 that those animals never had the ability to remove sin from the people. The only sacrifice that would suffice for humanity’s sin was the perfect sacrifice of a perfect man who also had the power to connect a redeemed humanity to God. Jesus Christ, the Son of the Almighty God, was that perfect man, and He gave himself up to die on a Roman cross for the sins of all humankind.
Prayer
Father, the sacrifice of Yourself and Your Son has given us all a chance to be redeemed from sin and its consequences, and we can’t fully tell You how grateful we are and how awesome it is to be free from the stain of rebellion. Please bless us to live in a way that honors Your sacrifice. We offer this prayer through our rescuer, Jesus Christ, amen.
