About the Author

PETER HORROBIN is the founder and international director of Ellel Ministries. Ellel Ministries was first established in 1986 as a ministry of healing in northwest England. Many lives were transformed through what God was doing, and the ministry could not be contained in one location. In the early nineties, the work quickly expanded to other parts of the country and into eastern Europe. Today the ministry is established in well over 50 operational centers in over 35 different countries.

Peter was born in 1943 in Bolton, Lancashire, and was brought up in Blackburn, also in northern England. His parents gave him a firm Christian foundation with a strong evangelical emphasis. His early grounding in the Scriptures would equip him for future ministry.

After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in chemistry, he spent a number of years lecturing in colleges and universities. He transitioned from the academic environment to the world of business, where he founded a series of successful publishing and bookselling companies.

In his twenties, Peter started to restore a vintage sports car (an Alvis Speed 20) but discovered that its chassis was bent. As he looked at the wreck of his broken car, wondering if it could ever be repaired, he sensed God saying, You can restore this broken car, but I can restore broken lives. Which is more important? It was obvious that broken lives were more important than broken cars, so the vision for restoring the lives of people was birthed in Peter’s heart.

A few years later, he was asked to help a person who had been sexually abused. Through this experience, God further opened up to him the vision of a healing ministry. He prayed daily into this vision until 1986 when God brought it into being. Ellel Grange, a country house just outside the city of Lancaster, provided the first home and the name of Ellel Ministries. Many Christian leaders affirmed the vision and gave it their support. Since then, a hallmark of Peter’s ministry has been his willingness to step out in faith to see God move to fulfil His promises, often in remarkable ways.

Under Peter and his wife’s leadership, the worldwide teaching and ministry team has seen God move dramatically in many people’s lives to bring salvation, hope, healing and deliverance. Together Peter and Fiona teach and minister on many different aspects of healing and discipleship. Ellel Ministries operates by faith and depends on donations and income from training courses to maintain and expand the work.

Outside of Ellel Ministries, Peter was the originator and one of the compilers of the amazingly successful and popular Mission Praise, now in its thirtieth anniversary edition (HarperCollins, 2015). It was originally compiled for Billy Graham’s Mission England in 1984.

The story of Peter’s life and of how God built and extended the ministry is told in his book Strands of Destiny (Sovereign World, 2018). He describes many of the extraordinary and miraculous events through which God has sustained the ministry across the years. JOURNEY TO FREEDOM is a culmination of over thirty years of experience teaching the foundational principles of healing and discipleship and ministering to people all over the world.
