OR, THE ADVENTURES OF MILES WALLINGFORD
Published in 1844, this novel is the fictionalised autobiography of Miles Wallingford, narrating his adventures as he progresses from his family’s farm in New York State to the home of the Rev. Hardinge, before the recounting the adventures of Miles, Harding’s son Rupert and the latter’s slave Neb, when the three young men run away to sea aboard the John – a trading ship, bound for the East. There follows the usual round of seafaring adventures as Miles progresses through an exciting naval career.
