²⁷Happily, I find Calvin at this point to have many affinities with the insights of David Peterson, “Worship in the New Testament,” in Worship: Adoration and Action, as well as those of Don Carson in the first chapter of this book. They point out how usual is the New Testament description of the weekly services of the church as being for “edification.”
