30A strict Willow Creek model assumes that a church cannot do both evangelism and worship in the same service. That is why the model provides for “seeker services” on the weekend and mid-week services for worship. Ironically, the most severe critics of “seeker-sensitive” worship share the same premises (as can be seen in Armstrong, “The Mad Rush”). The premise is that you cannot really combine the vertical and horizontal—you cannot have transcendent adoration and effective edification and evangelism in the same service. Calvin’s statements undermine this premise, I believe.
