36On the one hand, Calvin certainly understood the principle that for the Christian “all of life” is worship. See his comment in the Institutes on the “sum of the Christian Life” as seen in Rom 12:1: “Here then, is the beginning of this plan: the duty of believers is ‘to present their bodies to God as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to him,’ and in this consists the lawful worship of him (Rom12:1)” (III.vii.1). On the other hand, Calvin is of course very interested in what he calls “public” prayers and worship (for example, IV.x.29).
