This lamp is being sold for big bucks in the catalog sitting next to your toilet bowl. Enough said. You can also use this trendy technique on anything made of glass—vases, old jars, mirrors, holiday ornaments!

MATERIALS: painter’s tape, glass lamp base, old cardboard box, spray bottle, vinegar, water, “looking glass” spray paint, paper towels

images Using painter’s tape, tape off everything but the glass base of the lamp—including hardware, connector, and wires. In a well-ventilated area, or working outside, set lamp inside an old cardboard box. Using spray bottle, spray liberally with a 1:1 solution of vinegar and water.

images Immediately spray with spray paint. Let spray paint dry for 1 to 2 minutes, then spray again with vinegar solution and dry for 3 to 5 more minutes. Using paper towels, gently blot away excess moisture. Do not rub. This gives the mottled mercury glass effect.

images Allow to dry, remove protective tape, add lampshade, and display.

The spray bottle should be on the finest-mist setting. You can repeat the process as many times as necessary to get the desired effect.
