YOU CAN . . .
Shorten a hem. And why would you bother doing that? Because sometimes a shorter blouse can make you look taller and thinner. If you’re wearing a blouse untucked and it completely covers the crotch, you will immediately look shorter. It just happens. When your legs look shorter, you look shorter, and when you look shorter, you look wider. If this is a concern for you, have blouses hemmed to mid-hip. A lot of women are now saying out loud to uninterested spouses, “What does that mean, mid-hip?” And I say, “Give yourself a karate chop on the hip. Where would that karate chop be?” That’s mid-hip!
Curve a hem. Sometimes hemming a top so that it is a little shorter on the sides than it is in front and back (a shirttail hem) can provide tush coverage while maintaining a long leg line.
