Steven E. Maffeo is associate director of libraries at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. As a line librarian and an administrator, he has worked at several libraries including the University of Northern Colorado and the U.S. Naval War College. Mr. Maffeo has also maintained a parallel career in the naval reserve. After a short stint of navy active duty in 1972–74 and a brief time in the Colorado Army National Guard (Signal Corps), he enlisted in the Naval Reserve Intelligence Program (as an intelligence specialist third class) in 1979. Commissioned as an ensign (special duty intelligence) in 1981, he is now a commander and the executive officer of a large reserve intelligence unit (located at Buckley ANG Base in Aurora, Colorado) supporting the Joint Intelligence Center Pacific (headquartered in Pearl Harbor and Hickham AFB). His formal education includes an M.S. in strategic intelligence from the U.S. Joint Military Intelligence College in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Maffeo lives in Colorado Springs with his wife Rhonda and son Micah.
