Cut a perfect square of cardboard about an inch larger than finished work. Mark around this on tissue paper. Stretch and pin Square right-side-down on this paper pattern on a padded ironing board and steam with a wet cloth and hot iron, then press thro a dry cloth until perfectly dry.

Make required number of Squares to form a border 2 Squares wide around linen center the size of top of table. Hem linen. Sew Squares together, laying them side-by-side and exactly matching dc in beading rows. When Band is completed, work around inside edge with a solid row of sc,—2 sc over each 2-ch, sc in each dc.

Repeat between other 2 corners, forming a rectangle with open center. Sew this rectangle in exact center of linen. Cut out linen under crochet, turn back twice and hem down. Finally, steam and press finished Cloth.

Hereafter follow chart for edging, starting at the 5th row, until design is completed, making scallops at end of chart as follows: SI st in each of 3 d c, * ch 3 and make 4 bls, turn. Sl st in each of 3 d c, ch 3 and make 2 bls. Fasten and break off. Skip 12 d c, attach thread to next d c. Repeat from * 2 more times. Break off. Attach thread at “X” on chart, and continue to follow chart along other side. This completes one corner. Hereafter work rows of sps (continuing with scallops) until piece is the length of one side, omitting the corner. Then work corner as before, and continue in this manner around. Fasten and break off.

NAPKINS... (Make 6). Starting at bottom of chart, ch 78 and follow chart to end. Break off. Cut linen into 6 pieces, 18 inches square. Place lace corner on one corner of linen piece, and sew in place. Cut away excess linen at back of work, and make a narrow hem all around outer edges of napkin. Finish other napkins in same way.

MATERIALS—DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 20:—23-balls White or Ecru. Lily MERCROCHET Cotton may be substituted if preferred.

Crochet hook No. 12. Size—56 × 72 inches.

BLOCK—Ch 11, join with sl st to form ring. ROW 1—Ch 3, 23 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. ROW 2—(Ch 7, sk 1 dc, sl st in next 2 dc) 7 times, ch 3, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc.

ROW 3—* Ch 17, remove hook from lp, insert it back in 6th st of ch (counting from beg.), catch lp and draw thru forming a ch-11 ring out on left side of ch. Ch 1, in ring make 1 sc, 1 hdc, 15 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc. Sc around ch at base of ring, ch 5, sc in next ch-7 lp. Repeat from * 7 times. Cut 6” long, thread to a needle and fasten off on back of center circle.
