Scar Banks

The incessant tapping of my fingers against the brown wooden table in addition to the slowly ticking clock that sat above my head was just about to drive me insane. Once again I was waiting in the ice-cold visiting room for my brother to come out. It had been thirty minutes already and my patience was running thin and when that happened shit got hectic.

Staring own at the table I couldn’t help but think of the countless people who had sat at this table in my exact same spot. Numerous words and names word scattered throughout the wood like it was a high school desk or something. Seeing Tay Tay loves Leah made me smile a little. Tay Tay loved that girl so much that he waited to come to a jail visit to scribble the shit on a table.

That only occupied my time for a few seconds as I looked up at the clock for the twentieth time wondering why they liked to fuck with my time here.

“Yo, fuck is up with this visit,” I turned back and looked at the CO who was just idly standing not doing a damn thing.

“What do you mean?” he asked, with a hint of bout its bout it in his voice.

I got up so he could feel just exactly what I meant.

“What I mean is, I been in this bitch for damn near an hour waiting to see my brother,” I growled at him. “Fuck type time all on in this bitch B?”

Now his ass was shaking and that hype that he had in voice before had magically disappeared.

“I will go see what is taking them so long to bring them down,” he scurried his fat ass away and in less than five minutes Jacob came limping out.

My eyes widened in disbelief when he finally got to the table and I looked him in his face. Dark rings were around his eyes, his lip was busted and from the look on his face I could tell that he was in pain. I clasped my hands together and said a silent prayer so that whoever was up in the sky could control the anger that I was feeling right now.

“What happened to you Jacob?” I asked, trying to contain the beast that was about to erupt from me.

“Nothing, a little fight that’s all,” he tried his best to sugarcoat the shit which got me even more upset.

“Tell, me the Truth Co. Either way shit gone get handled.”

He tried his best to see out of his broken glass, but they ultimately fell into his lap. He was nervous, but more than that he was scared.

“Co, let me help you,” I pleaded with him.

“No, I don’t need your help. Just do what you said you were going to. That is the only way.”

I rubbed my hands over my face out of frustration. My plan to get my brother out was coming along, but it wasn’t coming along fast enough. It was coming up on a year that he had been in this bitch and the first half, I was locked up so he had some bullshit ass court appointed lawyer who didn’t know his face from his ass hole and now here we are.

“Jacob you have to hold on in here and be strong. I’m moving trust me, but in the meantime, you have to be strong and defend yourself and most of all you have to tell your big brother the truth.”

He covered his face and I could tell that he didn’t want me to see him cry. Jacob was always this way. Growing up, he was pretty much a good kid who made straight as and played field hockey. The street shit that I was into didn’t interest him and he stayed on the straight and narrow up until the shit he got into his junior year.

“Now, tell me what happened. What really happened?”

“People just fuck with me in here. Every day it is something new, but last night when I was coming out of the shower, I was attacked by a gang of them. I didn’t see who they were though.”

I knew his ass was straight up lying. Niggas beating your ass and you didn’t get one look at any of them. He just didn’t want to tell me because he knew that I would do anything for him and that included risking my own freedom.

“It’s this one guy named Flame that tries to look out for me, but he is about to be released,” Jacob added.

“Don’t worry about it. You don’t have to worry about shit! I got some OHs who gone watch you while you are in here. All I have to do is make that call. You have to just keep your head up boy!”

Co nodded and for the rest of the visit we sat silently. It was staring me up inside that I couldn’t do more for my brother but, he would be home soon. I just had a couple more moves to make and he would never have to see the inside of this place ever again.
