Epilogue

The Time Lapse, which had once served as his escape from a lonely world, was now filled with laughter and song. His children played on the deck, and his wife piloted the boat with an ease she’d learned only after years of practice.

“Daddy, look at me,” Annabelle called to him from her perch on the ropes. Wind blew through her reddish-brown hair, and he knew this was what Sabrina had looked like as a young girl.

Their firstborn had just turned seven. Four-year-old Caleb wasn’t far behind her. Reese grabbed both of his kids and held them over the Pacific Ocean.

“Who wants a swim?” he asked.

Childish giggles filled the air, and Reese felt a sense of contentment he wouldn’t have believed the world offered before he’d met Sabrina. She’d turned into his light and his life. Soothing him in ways the dangerous stunts he’d pulled in the past never had.

They were sailing down to Santa Barbara for the Cal King Tournament, which he and Jeff had a good chance at winning this year. Life was full and rich and good, Reese decided.

He set the kids on the deck with a warning to stay off the ropes and went to stand behind his beloved wife.

Her body was reed-slim despite two births and a third pregnancy. Though she was only two months along, her breasts were exquisitely sensitive.

“How are you feeling?” he asked as he slipped up behind her, resting his hands on her hips.

“Good. I love being at sea.”

Her hair fanned out from her scalp, teasing his face. He leaned closer, inhaling the scent of his woman, holding her with a fierceness he’d never be able to control.

“I love you,” he said softly. The words came easier to him now.

“I love you, too,” she said.

The love in her eyes shone for the world to see, and he proudly accepted that Sabrina was his mate in every way. Holding his wife in his arms while his children played a few feet away, Reese felt the happiness he’d been searching for all his life surround and engulf him. No matter what the seas of life offered them, he and his family would steer their course together.
