We have to suffer for our art, right?” my writer friend asked me.
I believe that if we believe that, we surely will suffer. We may not even notice when we are not. In my experience, it is not the act of making art that is painful. It is the desire to make something and not acting on it that causes pain. When we are engaged in our creativity, we are in love with our process. Yes, there may be stretches where the going gets rough, but that happens in any love affair. To my eye, what is really painful is not practicing our creativity.
