The difference between $7 and $10 seems minimal—it’s only $3, but I found a huge difference when shopping for the recipes featured here, compared to the first section. The quality of the meat and produce remained the same—but both the quantity and variety rose significantly.
In this $10 and under section, you will find that you can throw together very filling main courses, fun desserts, and side dishes for entertaining. You’ll also find that your protein choices have expanded to incorporate fish, turkey, and pork shoulder. As is true throughout the book, most of these meals provide enough food for leftovers, always a bonus for me!
As stressed in the Introduction, the prices here reflect using store-bought broth, canned tomatoes, and dried herbs. You can significantly reduce your shopping receipts by making your own broth from scratch or by using bouillon, and by using tomatoes and herbs from your garden. The rule of thumb is to double the measurement of fresh herbs compared to dried.
