Winter
For winter, the following foods and methods are recommended for nourishing and supporting all the organs at this time of year:
Method of Cooking: Soups, stews, baking and slow cooking
Grains: Whole grains, rice, oats
Vegetables: Root vegetables are best – e.g., onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes pumpkin, leeks, etc
Beans and Nuts: Lentils, kidney beans, pine nuts, walnuts and chestnuts
Meat: Lamb, beef, chicken
Herbs and Seasonings: Rosemary, shallots, garlic, onions, chili, cinnamon cloves, black pepper, ginger, fennel, anise, dill and horseradish
Avoid / Reduce
- Salads
- Too many raw foods
- Cold drinks
- Diary
- Oily, damp foods
- Alcohol (a little warm wine is ok)
- Refined sugars
- White flour
