DESIGN TIP
for Your Home and Heart

There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under the heavens. (Eccles. 3:1)

Not much thought or design effort is given to the hallways in our homes. We may choose a railing for the stairs or wooden trim for the bottom and top of the walls that flank the hallway spaces in our homes. But avoid putting too many things along the walls of your hallways since these spaces are usually narrower and exist to help you move from one living space of your home to another.

Metaphorically speaking, I believe that a good number of us are in a “hallway” type season of life. We don’t feel like celebrating a hallway season because it appears empty. We find ourselves figuratively surrounded by blank, bare walls. Our hearts long to fill those walls with the same trophies or pictures that hang on other people’s walls.

God is helping me see that hallway seasons deserve to be celebrated and acknowledged. A blank space allows us time to prepare for the future hanging of pictures we have yet to take. Bare walls enable us to breathe and love those around us more deeply.

Be encouraged. Celebrate your hallway. It’s a beautiful place to be too.
