Acidity (pH) of Common Foods and Beverages

We tested the pH (acidity) of many foods and beverages. A pH of 7 is neutral (non-acidic), and pH 1 is very acidic. Stomach acid itself is usually between pH 1 and pH 4. For The Reflux Diet, foods and beverages below pH 4 are too acidic. In fact, for the two-week start-up induction period, we recommend avoiding anything with pH 5 or less. Remember, low pH means high acidity. Good pH values for foods and beverages you eat often should be pH 5–7. After induction, pH 4-5 foods are okay in moderation.
