Summary

Star Magic provides us with twenty-first-century methods for drawing on the power of the constellations for ritual, magic, and other purposes. We have learned about the history of astronomy and astrology, background information about the constellations, and how to find our way among the stars throughout the seasons. We have learned that working with stars is no different from drawing down the moon or calling on other energy of the natural world.

To aid us in working with star energy, we use the palm chakras and the seven major chakras within the physical body as well as the three celestial chakras above our heads and the earth star chakra below our feet. In addition to physically sensing energy, engaging the mind with visualization is another important component in magic work. When we draw on star energy or any magical energy we become a conduit for it. We draw it in, shape it with our willpower through visualization, and then send it out along with some of our own energy. Star energy can also be released into a talisman, crystal, or something fashioned for a spell. Additionally, we can draw down star energy for use in ritual and, quite appropriately, before astrology work or astral travel. Working with the constellations carries us through the seasons, supplementing and enhancing our Wheel of the Year. As we observe and work with the cycle of energy in the green world, the stars complete the sphere of nature with a changing ceiling that complements what goes on below on the earth. As above, so below; the flow is unbroken and never ending.

As you explore and work with the constellations in either hemisphere, you may find that a few stars have more meaning for you than others. These become your special stars from which you can draw energy. Choosing one for each quarter of the year provides a guiding star for each season. Your attraction to a particular star may be a combination of factors such as its history, energy, name, or certain details about the constellation of which it is a member. Learn to find it whenever you step outside on a starry night, or if it is a less bright star, know where it is in the sky. Call on your seasonal stars to aid you in ritual, spellwork, or other endeavors. Spend time each season drawing down the energy of your special quadrant star and weave your own story around it.

In addition, you may find that a particular constellation resonates with you. If so, find a special place in your home where you can lay out its star pattern with whatever objects feel appropriate. To work with its energy more closely, lay out the pattern on your altar and gaze at it for a few minutes, and then close your eyes. Hold the image in your mind and meditate on the constellation as you draw its energy. Open yourself to receive knowledge of what this constellation means to you personally. Whenever you need to call on it, bring the image of this constellation into your mind and feel its energy surround you.

While we may follow an earth-centered spirituality, the energy of the stars envelopes our planet and holds us in the great web of the cosmos. All we need to do is reach for the stars and draw down their magic.

Twinkle, twinkle magic star,

I see your light from afar.

Up above the world so high,

Shining guardian in the sky.

Twinkle, twinkle celestial guide,

Send your wisdom far and wide.
