The Powerfood Nutrition Plan is a guidebook to help you break out of your routine and become more powerful in all areas of your life. The book breaks the usual mold for nutrition books.
First of all, it’s aimed at men—not the usual nutrition book’s target audience. But men have just as many, if not more reasons to eat right than women. I should know: my career in nutrition has always focused on men in one way or another. When I did my doctoral research, it was on male body builders. My clients, including many pro athletes, were almost all men until 1994, when I moved my practice to Seattle. Even today, about 60 percent of the work I do is with men. I, as well as anyone, know how badly men need healthy, practical eating advice. In this book, I look to do something about that. Also, rather than creating one diet that uses 10 chapters to explain how you can fit it into your life, I have created 20 different meal plans in 11 chapters dedicated to each of the different goals that you might want to excel in at some point in your life. You choose what you want to work on in your life, and when.
Generalized diets for the masses can get across the big do’s and don’ts regarding health promotion, disease prevention, and basic body-weight management. I call them the Nutrition 101’s of the diet world. But once you’ve got the basics down and you want to achieve more, you need to move on to sophisticated principles that draw on the cutting edge of nutrition science. I tell my clients that what I offer is a customized program based on their personal needs and goals. No one gets the same plan, and every consult is a graduate-level nutrition course based on you. It digs deeper and gives you more detail and practical guidance than the typical one-stop diet. Use The Powerfood Nutrition Plan right, and you can reach the levels of excellence that you strive to achieve, whether in the boardroom, the locker room, or the bedroom.
Flip back to the Contents. You will see chapters on mood and brain power, weight loss, muscle building, athletic performance, daily health, longevity, appearance, sexual performance, and the Full-Power Meal Plan. Set your priorities. What do you want to work on first? If weight loss is your first goal, read chapter 1 and then turn to chapter 3. If you think that your body weight is just a symptom of mild depression, then go to chapter 2 first. Once you feel better, move on to chapter 3, and so forth.
Every chapter has one or more menus that incorporate the critical points addressed in the text. These diets are designed not just to stand alone, but to help you move from diet to diet as your needs change. If you start out working on weight loss in chapter 3, once you achieve your goals you’ll be able to easily move to the muscle-building diet in chapter 4 without feeling overwhelmed with a completely different diet plan. You’ll already be familiar with the basic food plan, so incorporating the new muscle-building elements should be easy.
It is the details that make the difference. Bill Belichik, head coach of the three-time winning Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots, once told me that the difference between any athlete and a winner is attention to details. That’s what I’ve incorporated into The Powerfood Nutrition Plan diet plans: tweaks and details that will lift your body/mind above the realm of average men—changes that will give you championship-caliber results. You will know exactly what to eat and when to eat it, no matter what your personal goals.
Of course, once you’ve attained your specific goals, you’ll want a meal plan that maintains your results and keeps you healthy for the rest of your life. Or perhaps your only goal is to have a healthier diet that really incorporates the latest information in nutrition. If so, turn to the Full-Power Meal Plan. It incorporates pretty much all of the health benefits in this book and delivers a 14-day nutrition plan designed to produce major results, fast. I firmly believe that it represents the best, most comprehensive diet for the vast majority of the men reading this book.
I’ll keep this brief and end by saying that if you’ve ever taken food for granted, you won’t after reading The Powerfood Nutrition Plan. The world of nutrition is complex—just as complex as the world of medicine, if not more so. The most celebrated experts in my field are learning new ways to use food to benefit mankind every day, and will continue to do so until they retire. By reading this book, you’re going to gain a new appreciation for the power of food. It’s my hope that you’ll take these lessons and put them to work to improve your entire life.
Good luck!
