Make tablecloths the desired width by joining fabric widths as necessary, using full widths in the center and partial widths on the lengthwise edges. Straighten the crosswise ends of fabric (page 221) to square the corners. Use plain, French, or overedge seams.
Hem the edges with double-fold hems of ΒΌ" (6 mm) width or use 1" (2.5 cm) width to give them more weight. Mitering is the neatest way to square the corners because it covers raw edges and eliminates bulk.
To determine the amount of fabric you need, divide the total width of the tablecloth by the width of your fabric, less 1" (2.5 cm) for seam allowances. Count fractions as one width. Multiply this figure, which is the number of panels needed by the total length of the tablecloth. Divide this number by 36" (100 cm) to get the total yards (meters) required.
