Chapter 11

Rebby

13 months earlier

“Ah, my dear, you are awake.” A man in a white lab coat comes into my vision. “I was so glad that you didn’t hit my associate. It would have been much more difficult to get you and my other pets here without his help.”

“Who are you? What do you want with me?”

“Who I am...” he shrugs his shoulders, “that doesn’t matter. You can call me Master. What I want is your body.”

I shrink into the gurney, realizing that I am strapped down and naked.

“Oh, you foolish girl. I couldn’t care less about you, sexually. I want your body for what I can do with it. What a beautiful canvas to work with!” His grin has a manic quality to it, his voice filled with passion. He pushes a button that causes the gurney to move so that instead of lying flat I am almost standing up.

“After tonight, you will be...reborn!”

He pulls a syringe out of his pocket and pushes the green liquid into my IV. “This is phase one. You might feel a little discomfort. Please feel free to scream. It is such a delicious sound.” His voice turns husky at that last statement.

“What was that you put in me?” I ask, trying not to show how scared I am.

“Oh that? That is just a little concoction that will start changing your DNA. I’m not sure how well it will work. The last patient screamed so deliciously, but sadly couldn’t handle the changes.” He walks over to the pinkish liquid that is running through the IV and increases the drip. “I changed the dose a little for you. We will let you acclimate slowly. One dose every hour for twelve hours. Then it will just be a matter of time until the transformation will be complete.”

He turns to leave, but I have questions. “Wait! What do you mean change my DNA? Why? To what?”

But he doesn’t respond, just walks out of the room. Then I feel it- the first inkling of something being wrong, something changing. My muscles tense, tighter and tighter until I scream in pain. I pass out, only to awaken to the man standing in front of me, eyeing me. I feel rung out; sweat covers my body in a cold sheen that makes me shiver.

“Ready for your second dose? Your screams were delicious, but you are still such a weak human.” He pulls out another syringe full of more green goo and plunges it into my IV. This time it burns as it enters my bloodstream and I bite my cheek to keep from crying out. “Scream, my pet!”

I hate myself, but I do scream as my muscles cramp. It feels like my arms and legs are being pulled in on themselves. The pain is more than I can take. My throat is raw from screaming, yet I continue to scream until I pass out.

When I wake the third time, my body feels different. I can’t move my head to see my arms and legs, but they don’t seem to fit on the gurney as they did before. My hands had been able to touch the sides, but now they don’t. My feet had been against a metal plate- now they hang in midair.

I try to speak, but my voice is gone from screaming. The man in the lab coat stands before me, a smile on his face. “Yes, this new treatment is working much better. Slow and steady wins the race.”

He doesn’t bother to tell me to yell, or anything. He just pulls a syringe and pushes it into the IV. “I’ll be back,” He laughs as he walks out of the room.

I didn’t think I could scream anymore, but I do. My sides spasm, it feels like something is trying to claw its way out of my sides. My arms and legs are in pain as well, especially at the hips and shoulders. My neck and head feel like someone is pushing down on me. The pain is excruciating.

I rouse to Labcoat standing in front of me. He looks different, bigger somehow. He is also a funny color, as if I am wearing glasses with a blue and green tint. His smile tells me that he is happy at whatever progress my body is making.

I try to talk, but instead I grind my teeth in a loud manner. What the heck?

“Poor little girl. We will make you better,” Labcoat says as he pulls another syringe out of his pocket.

I don’t wake up again until I am in a small cell. One wall is glass that looks out into a hallway, the other three are cinder block that is painted white. The floor is full of hay and a blanket is in the corner. A water bottle similar to those in the cages of rodents is on the back wall next to a metal door. A bowl of brown pellets is next to it.

I get up to look out the window, only to discover what they had done to me. I am not human anymore. Instead, my body is some Frankenstein creation. I have three sets of arms and legs, a fluffy tail, wings and long ears. The skin that I can see is covered in blue fur.

I don’t know how many days I was in that cage before the man in the lab coat walked down the hall, stopping at my cage. “You are a beautiful creation. They will pay handsomely for you. Of course, you are a thing of beauty, not security. But they will come.”

It was many weeks before I found myself in my human form again. One morning I woke up to find myself naked in that small cell, barely able to stretch out. Two days later I was back in the animal form and across from me was a new animal.

This pattern went on for months until that hallway of cells was filled with a variety of animals.
