The year is 2247. The Earth is largely unpopulated by humankind due to its inhospitable conditions. The Americas have been completely deserted. Toxins permeate the land and the air, as well as every body of water, stream, and river. And yet, people still survive. In fact, they do more than survive. They thrive.
Within walled cities, known as provinces, people, animals, and plant life enjoy pristine environments made possible by exceptionally advanced technology. People are connected, like never before, to each other and everything through an all-encompassing data System. Life is simple and pleasant. All basic human needs are met. Resources are abundant. Transportation is as fast as ever. Disease is rare. Crime is nearly nonexistent. Warfare is a thing of the past. And yet, forces are at work that could disrupt everything, for better or for worse.
This is the story of the fateful events that first steered the world we now call Eurafrasia, towards a monumental societal shift.
And it all starts with a girl.
