There are grandmothers out there who would move heaven and earth for their grandchildren.
~Janice Elliott-Howard
Getting married is stressful for any bride, but when my grandmother became ill, it added another dimension to the circumstances. She wanted very much to see me walk down the aisle, but her condition made it impossible.
I promised to go to the hospital room after the wedding so she could see me in my veil and gown. But one week before my wedding, we got the call that she had passed away. That night, she came to me in a dream.
She said she had something very valuable she wanted me to have. She said the precious gift was hidden in the top drawer of her china cabinet.
The next morning, my parents and I opened the drawer she had instructed we look in. There was nothing obviously valuable, just some linens. We pulled them out and finally found a little greeting-card box.
We sat at the dining-room table and removed the lid to find all the letters and cards I had given her over the years. These were the cherished treasures she wanted me to have.
It has been fifty years, and I still open the box every year on the anniversary of the night that she visited me as I slept.
