1. Look up that career on the government’s website http://online.onetcenter.org
2. Print out the functions and skills required for that career.
3. Compare these functions and skills against your profile’s description of the ideal job—how well do they match?
4. Are you an Introvert or an Extrovert? Does the level of people contact seem energizing or draining to you?
5. What are the educational requirements? Do you need more schooling?
6. Look at the bottom of the webpage for the salary. Could you live comfortably on it?
7. Identify several companies you’d like to work for, listing pros and cons.
8. Make a contact list—call or ask people you know for the name and number of the right person to contact at your preferred companies, and if possible research job openings before inquiring. Usually within six random inquiries you will find someone who can make an introduction.
