ABOUT THE AUTHOR

SUZANNE J. STARK (1926–2015) was an editor, lecturer, and freelance writer whose work appeared in leading maritime journals. She received a degree in art history and painted and exhibited in Amsterdam, New York, and San Francisco. She worked as a textbook editor and writer for Houghton Mifflin, Harcourt Brace, and other publishers.
