CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Resin Clay

LUCKY DUCK

Patricia Chapman

Resin clay and beads over plywood piece, small painted 3-D cast resin duck, shelf and Scrabble tiles added.

Resin clay has been around for years, but once I figured out what this miraculous substance could do, the skies above me opened and golden beams of light poured down. It is incredibly easy to use. It comes in several different colors, but you can create almost any custom color you want by mixing existing colors or by blending it with acrylic paints. Resin clay is perfect for making “groutless” mosaics by embedding any beads, charms or other objects into it. And it is a fabulous sculpting medium that self-hardens with zero-percent shrinkage and is crazy durable when it is fully cured. After it is cured, it can be sanded, drilled or carved. Used as an adhesive, it creates an amazingly strong bond between even the most wildly different materials and surfaces. There are so many fun possibilities.
