Making Masks

You can cut blank masks (found online or in art supply stores) to any shape you want, smooth on a thick mixture of ClayShay and add textures and embellish with interesting found objects to create one-of-a-kind masks. Beads, yarn, wire, small objects, broken jewelry pieces, buttons and feathers (the list goes on and on) all make delightful additions to your masks.

STEP ONE: Draw cut lines on a blank paper mache mask and cut. Make holes to add embellishments if necessary.

STEP TWO: Attach found objects (like this old sprinkler component) using a suitable glue such as an epoxy adhesive.

STEP THREE: Mix ClayShay to a thick frosting consistency and spread it on with a spatula or a clay modeling tool.

STEP FOUR: Make marks in the clay using a moistened clay modeling tool. Let the clay dry thoroughly.

STEP FIVE: Paint and add embellishments.
