You can either spread fiber paste directly on art for texture or spread it on plastic as we have done here. When it dries peel it off and place it where you want on the art and glue it down with soft gel.
A cheap and easy rusting technique is sprinkling tumeric (yes, the spice) on a wet, Raw Umber–painted surface. Some people use cinnamon, but I like the color of tumeric better.
STEP ONE: Apply fiber paste in broad strokes to plastic. Let it dry.
STEP TWO: Peel the dried fiber paste off your work surface. Rust it with a two-part compound or as desired.
STEP THREE: Glue the piece (cutting if necessary) with soft gel to add dimension to a painting.
