A Fruitless Search
Coastguard vessels patrolled up and down the River Novus for days in search of the missing children. But after a week Zoey finally accepted that they weren’t going to the found.
The Princess stood at a palace window staring at the river that had swallowed up Chilli and Ty. In her hand she held the piece of amber Chilli had thrown to her.
“I’m not the same person I was before this happened. None of us are. We’ve been woken up, and I’m going to make sure we stay that way.”
She went over to her dressing table and carefully placed the amber on a small velvet cushion. As she walked away, she didn’t see the dragonfly’s wings quiver as they caught a ray of sunlight.
