Shipping Containers are Sturdy

image

The purpose of shipping containers is to protect cargo that is transported by sea. These containers need to be able to withstand any meteorological conditions you can think of:

●  Hurricanes

●  Waves

●  Winds

●  Snow blizzards, and

●  Storms

But also one you may not have thought of immediately: the glare of the direct sun.

That is why many shipping containers are made from weathering steel, also referred to as Corten steel. This is a group of steel alloys that resists the corrosive effects of rain, fog and other natural weather conditions by forming a coating of rust-like oxidation over the metal. This type of steel is also used to build bridges, which then hardly need any maintenance after construction is completed.

Because of these qualities, shipping container homes are actually much safer than traditional homes.
