As we discussed earlier, wooden floors in used shipping containers have most likely been treated with hazardous pesticides. Either take them out and replace them, or use other materials for covering up the floor, such as industrial epoxy or polyurethane coating. Do not do this without consulting an expert: you do not want to take any chances with your – or your family’s – health.
Because of the steel frame of the container, it may not be a good idea to consider very thick carpeting for the interior of your shipping container home, as this can add to the heat during the warmer months. Lighter carpets and area rugs, however, are fine to use and can also add to the interior segmentation of your container home, as well as aid in soundproofing.
