Chloe and Joey boarded the plane to go back to Australia and, as before, the other passengers were saying “A kangaroo on a plane? We didn’t know kangaroos could travel on a plane like that!” They all wanted to shake his paw.
Joey was so excited he opened his mouth and a stream of words came out! People were so shocked – a kangaroo who talked? This was impossible! But nothing was holding Joey back now. He announced:
“I’m here because I’m helping my family and all the kangaroos in Australia. We want everyone to start loving us and respecting the fact that we have families that we love just like you. We don’t ask much and we add value to the land. At the rate we are being killed we may soon become extinct like kiwis. This is a very important mission Chloe and I have begun and we have been very successful so far.”
Chloe then excitedly showed the passengers all the newspapers with stories about Joey and her on the front page and told them about the thousands of websites where people were also writing about them. The passengers were all astonished and amazed. How could this be true? But it made them think seriously about what Chloe and Joey were saying.
One of the passengers, however, worked at the office of the mean minister and he wasn’t happy, because mean ministers don’t like being told they are doing a bad job. They can’t admit they could be wrong or that they need to do a better job. He was the only one not interested in meeting Joey or looking at the newspapers. He was frowning and scowling out of the window for the whole trip. He would have to report to the mean minister what was happening and it made him angry.
Chloe noticed him scowling and did not understand. How could a person not love a kangaroo like Joey? He was soft and beautiful, gentle and loving. If only he could take the time to get to know Joey she was sure he would love him too.
Joey noticed him too. He went up to his seat, stopped and handed him his favourite grass, the last bit that Frank had given him, that was at the bottom of his backpack. The man looked at him, did not take what joey was offering, and looked away out of the window, bored.
Chloe thought it was really sad.
