There are three key personal skills you need in order to be a productive professional: reading, writing, and speaking. In this part, I’ll help you sharpen those skills. Since this book is focused on your professional career, I won’t address reading novels for pleasure, writing works of fiction, or giving speeches at weddings.
My advice will be similar in each chapter: begin by thinking carefully about your goals, and then apply specific techniques to improve your effectiveness. Although I hope these techniques will increase your speed in all three areas, they are primarily aimed at increasing your productivity—the quantity and quality of your results for the time spent.
