Painting: The Interview
Artist: Marilyn Cosho
Artist’s Commentary: In an interview, the mind is spinning and blank at the same time. With every question, this person, the interviewee, is thinking, “What do you mean? Could you give me an example? Am I even close?”
Painting: The Thirst
Artist: Michael Tolleson
Artist’s Commentary: Even though I have an extremely high IQ, I personally have lived my whole life “under-employed.” While most persons with Asperger’s have average to high intelligence we tend to be very poor at the politics required to get and keep elevated jobs. I was touched when I saw a photo of the woman I painted in this portrait. Here she is dressed in a beautiful sari, yet she is required to do something as menial and manual as drawing water into a bucket and carrying it to where it is needed. I understand that frustration.
