Chapter Six

Caleb said goodnight to the sound engineer in the next booth and the night guard on his way to his car. It had been a long night and a good one. He had no idea what time Lore had fallen asleep, but knowing she was listening had made the time go by faster.

Three o’clock in the morning meant the parking lot was nearly empty, so his phone ringing sounded loud in the dark. Fumbling it out of his pocket, he did not expect to find Lore’s number flashing on the display screen.

“Hello?”

“Hey there, Mr. DJ,” she said in a low, sexy voice he would have called a purr if hard-pressed.

“Hey, Lore.” He opened his car door and got in, starting it to get the heater running. February in Pennsylvania was not warm in any sense of the word, though his blood was heating just with talking to her.

“So what do you do after you get off?”

There was innuendo there that he wasn’t sure she meant. He still chuckled, and she joined him. So maybe she had meant it?

“Usually go to sleep.”

“Typical man.”

Yeah, she was definitely playing with him.

“What do you do after you get off?” he asked.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

God, yes, he would. But he didn’t want to push her and lose her before he’d even gotten a chance to be with her. Melanie’s warnings flashed in his mind. Mentally he swatted her aside and got back to the conversation.

“What are you doing still up?” he asked. “I thought I would have put you to sleep hours ago.”

“Thank you for playing my song.”

“You’re welcome. Any request you have, I’ll try to satisfy.” He wasn’t without his own innuendoes.

“Would it be too soon to ask you to stop by before you go home to sleep, then?”

“Now?” It was late, and she had been tired hours ago.

“Yep, now. I’ll meet you at the door, if you’re interested.” And she hung up.

Of course he was interested in spending time with her. But what was she inviting him over for? He didn’t want to make assumptions, but his groin had a mind of its own. So did his foot on the gas pedal. He made it to her apartment building in about ten minutes and parked right out front.

His phone rang again as he exited the car. Lore again. Please don’t let her have changed her mind. “What’s up, babe?”

“Oh,” she breathed, and then there was silence.

He’d have to file the “babe” thing away in his mental catalogue of breathy moments. He grinned. He hoped to have a long catalogue…

“Did you need something?” he asked.

“Yes. Yes, I do.” She cleared her throat. “Right, the reason I called. Sorry. I wanted to let you know I already unlocked the downstairs door. Just lock it behind you when you get into the foyer. I’m at the top of the steps. Door’s on the right.”

“Okay, I just parked, so I’ll be up in a minute.”

“See you soon then,” she said in a voice that he would almost describe as shy.

It made his step just a little quicker. He had never been so thankful for his height as he took the stairs two at a time, despite the fact he had no idea what he was walking into. He knew what he’d like it to be, but at this point, for starters, if he could simply hold her for the rest of the short night, he’d be happy.

At the landing, he stopped himself and took a deep breath. Holding her would be enough, he told himself again, no matter what his erection was throbbing for. If he had his way, they would have time for the rest of it later.

At least that was what he told himself until she answered his knock by opening the door in a long red satin robe. It parted enticingly at her chest, where her hardened nipples peaked against the material. It parted again on the bare leg bent slightly at the knee as she leaned against the door frame. If he knew anything, in his suddenly scrambled brain, it was that she had no clothes on under that long sheath of red.

He hadn’t thought it was possible to be any harder than he was, but yet again he was proven wrong.

Her hand went to the tie on the robe at her waist. She smiled at him as she started tugging the long piece of material to unravel the drooping bow. Gently brushing her slightly shaking hand away, he took the tie from her and finished the job, revealing her perfect body to his hungry eyes.

It took everything Lore had not to cover herself with her hands when her robe parted from neck to floor. But the light in Caleb’s eyes, the way his gaze devoured her from her shoulders to her toes made her shake for an entirely different reason.

He moved into the apartment, wrapping his arm around her waist as he backed her into the living room one step at a time. He never took his eyes off hers, after that first glimpse of what the parting robe revealed, and she quaked at the lust evident there. She wanted this, wanted him, and she could not only see he wanted her, too, but also feel it against her bare belly.

“You’re wearing far too many clothes,” she said breathlessly.

“If I get undressed now, we’re not going to make it to the bedroom.”

“I have a perfectly good couch right here.”

He ate the last word with his soft lips that became hard and demanding, sending her heart rate straight into overdrive.

Despite the electricity arcing between them, though, he took his time. He deposited her on the couch, then used those long, thick fingers to brush her robe from her shoulders. It pooled around her hips, but she was transfixed by the way he was unbuttoning his shirt. She wouldn’t have thought it was possible, but his shoulders looked even broader when they were bare.

Next he shucked his shoes, socks, and pants. Standing before her in boxers, he looked like a mix between a fantasy and a dream come true. And if she had to sit here one more second without her hands on him, she might just come undone.

He bent forward at the waist, putting one hand on the arm of the couch and the other on the back, effectively caging her in. She breathed in and caught the most wonderful scent of Caleb and something woodsy that drew her in even farther.

She was ready for this. She wanted him in a way she had never wanted anyone before. And as she had sat listening to him over the airwaves, she’d known that no matter how long they’d known each other it wasn’t too little time or too soon to know all of him.

Using just her fingertips, she skimmed them along his sides, raising goose bumps in their wake as she made her way toward his boxer shorts.

“I still think you’re wearing too many clothes,” she murmured as he drew closer to her. Any second now, he would kiss her and she would be lost. She so desperately wanted to be lost with him.

She carefully pushed his boxers down as she kept her gaze locked with his. “Are you sure about this?”

“Are you?” he responded.

“Yes.”

“Good.” Then he kissed her as he pressed her back into the couch, covering her with that huge body.

Tucking a hand under her hip, he knelt between her legs. He was huge all over, and she worried for a moment she wouldn’t be able to take him all in. That thought flew out a moment later when he circled her nipple with one finger as he used his mouth on the other.

“You taste so damn good.”

“It’s my lotion. I used cherry.”

He lifted his head to give her a grin that made her thighs clench.

“I like it.” To punctuate his words, he licked the other nipple and had her squirming on the couch.

“Is it too soon to ask you to take me now?” she asked, only half-joking.

His chuckle came out a little strangled. “Not at all, sweetheart.”

After taking the condom she handed him and rolling it on, Caleb slipped into her in one swift motion that had her catching her breath.

He really was big everywhere. She squirmed for a moment, and he gave her time to get accustomed to the size and weight of him.

“Okay?” he asked.

“Oh, God, better than okay.” He was fully seated, and she could feel every solid inch filling her up. It was delicious, wonderful, magnificent. And if he didn’t start moving soon she was going to scream.

He chuckled again as she wrapped her legs around his butt, and few things had ever sounded or felt better. “I take that as your command to get going?”

“Take it however you want as long as you take me.”

“As you wish.”

They found a rhythm that had them both moaning before long. With every thrust, Lore met Caleb on equal ground and gave as good as she got. With her orgasm cresting, she wanted him to come with her. She writhed under him, trying to touch and absorb as much of him as she could. He gritted his teeth above her.

“You first,” he ground out.

“No, together.”

He let go with a groan that matched hers as he collapsed on top of her, a weight she more than welcomed.

Finally, after a long time of hiding and being afraid to love again, the last six years had found their place in her past and she had opened the door fully to her future, one where she could and would love again. Where she already did love again, no matter how fast it had happened.

“Is it too soon to tell you I think I might be falling in love with you?” he murmured into her hair.

She sighed and stroked his spiky hair, knowing in her heart that this was only the beginning of something truly wonderful. “Not at all, sweetheart.”

And it had all started with One Kiss.
