The Wimmera and the Little Desert National Park are real places, but the town of Gatyekarr is my own invention. Like many towns in the area, its name has its origins in the Wergaia language. I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which this book was researched and set – the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk peoples – and their ongoing connection to Country and culture. I pay my respects to their Ancestors and descendants, and to Elders past, present and future. My special gratitude to the Barengi Gadjin Land Council for their assistance.
